Computer Access

The mouth stick is one of the most popular assistive technologies. In many cases there is a rubber tip at the end of the mouth stick to give the tip better traction, and a plastic or rubber feature at the other end that the person inserts into the mouth. Someone with no use of the hands could use a mouth stick to type. Head wands are very similar in function to mouth sticks, except the stick is strapped to the head.
Some adaptive keyboards have raised areas in between the keys, rather than lowered areas, to allow the person to first place the hand down on the keyboard, then slide the finger into the correct key. A person with tremors, or spastic movements could benefit from this type of keyboard. (Web AIM)

Rules

Demonstrations are a great way to help students learn and understand the activity about to be done. Sometimes teachers should pair students together for assistance. Time limits should be disregarded. And strike-outs should be eliminated. These are all strategies that will help children succeed in physical activities.

Equipment

Types of adapted equipment for physical activities: larger/lighter bat, use of velcro, larger target, mark positions on playing field, scoops for catching, and a variety of different types of balls (size, weight, color, texture).

Adapted Physical Education

"Adapted physical education is the art and science of developing and implementing a carefully designed physical education instructional program for an individual with a disability, based on a comprehensive assessment, to give the individual the skills necessary for a lifetime of rich leisure, recreation, and sport experiences to enhance physical fitness and wellness."
